Lady Hawks

Welcome to COSSA Lady Hawks

Lady Hawks is where women shooters of all levels and experiences can Learn new skills and Improve old ones.

Lady Hawks at COSSA Park has a tradition of providing an environment for women shooters of all levels and experiences who want to learn new skills and improve old ones while having a safe and fun day at the range.  Lady Hawks is open to all women at least 18 years old who are, or want to be, safe, responsible, and effective pistol shooters.

We meet the second Saturday of each month April through October.  All sessions are from 10AM to 2PM at the Lady Hawks’ Bay (Bay 16), COSSA Park.  Registration is required and opens 3 weeks prior to each event. See the Calendar.

Lady Hawks offers three levels of training:

  1. The Fundamentals of Shooting class is an entry level course that teaches the basics of pistol marksmanship with a primary focus on safe and responsible gun handling.  It’s a three-hour plus class with the majority of time spent on the firing line handling and shooting pistols.  Instruction is provided to small groups of students under the direct guidance of experienced instructors.  This is a great class for the first-time shooter or for anyone who wants a refresher class before moving to the Advanced Instruction Clinic.
  2. The Advanced Instruction Clinic is designed to teach fundamental shooters how to be good shooters and good shooters how to be better shooters.  Instructors assess each shooter’s skills and abilities and provide guidance and instruction matched to the individual shooter.
  3. The third level is an unstructured but supervised Open Shoot for practicing the skills and refining the techniques learned in the Advanced Instruction Clinic.  Or it can be range time for just having fun shooting at targets.  You do not have to attend the Advanced Instruction Clinic first in order to sign up for the Open Shoot.

Lady Hawks’ FIRST PRIORITY is gun safety so first-time attendees signing up for the Advanced Instruction Clinic or the Open Shoot will be asked to demonstrate minimum safe gun handling skills and abilities.

Bring your own ammunition and pistol.  Lady Hawks has a few pistols available for use in the Fundamentals training class if you don’t have your own.  Eye and ear protection are required and are available for all shooters.

Registration and payment online is preferred and opens approximately the month before to the session date.  Registration at the range on the day of a session is on a space available basisFees are payable at the time of registration and are refundable if cancelled at least 24 hours before the session date start time (e.g., before 10AM on Friday for a 10AM Saturday session).  Cancellations made after 10AM Friday and before the session start are non-refundable but may be applied to another Lady Hawks session during the remainder of the current calendar year.
